Near the coast we can tell the temperature by the color of the sky. The paler blue the sky the more “marine layer” is present – cooler, damper air making the blue look bright and faded. On particularly cool days, especially in the afternoons, the sky can be almost a glossy gray-white with barely a hint of blue.
As a painter, I spend a lot of time looking at color and shadow. I was mesmerized by this scene yesterday late afternoon as I sat on the edge of a vineyard looking east, with fog sitting on the ridges in the far distance and cool sunlight bringing out a thousand shades of green and blue and brown.
I almost missed the moon.
